62-year-old man from Omaha receives prison time for child pornography charge

OMAHA, Neb. -- Omaha federal court sentenced a 62-year-old Omaha man to over six years in prison for transportation of child pornography.
Acting U.S. Attorney Steven Russell announced in Omaha's federal court that 62-year-old Steve Eggiman, of Omaha, was sentenced on Wednesday to 78 months’ imprisonment for transportation of child pornography.
Eggiman will begin a five-year term of supervised release after his initial prison sentence and will be required to register as a sex offender. There is no parole in the federal system. Eggiman is also ordered to pay $9,000 in restitution and a $5,000 JVTA special assessment.
Officials said Yahoo! Inc., an Electronic Service Provider, found at least one image of child pornography was sent through Yahoo! email servers on Nov. 23, 2020. Yahoo! reportedly captured the Internet Protocol (IP) address that was used by the account user to send the child pornography. Officers got information about the IP address, which ultimately showed Eggiman was the subscriber and that he lived in Omaha.
According to court documents, Omaha FBI's Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force got a federal search warrant of Eggiman’s residence and took his digital devices. Eggiman gave a voluntary statement to the officers, admitting to transporting and possessing child pornography. A forensic review of Eggiman’s devices found 71 images and three videos of child pornography.
This case was investigated by the Omaha FBI's Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force.
