Falls City offering college credits in high school
Board hears overview on Southeast Community College and dual credit courses

FALLS CITY – The Falls City School Board heard an overview of dual credit programs that allow students to earn college credit while still in high school.
Guidance Counselor Sara Barker was joined by seniors Elyse Poppe, Alexis Miller and Jon Craig at Monday’s meeting.
The school is partnering with Southeast Community College and DC Advantage for career academies that focus on the areas of agriculture, construction, business, manufacturing and other course formats.
If a student receives a grade “C” or better, the school district pays the fees for the SENCAP class. DC Advantage course fees are paid by students at a reduced tuition rate.
As described by the students presenting information on the program, it’s not uncommon for Falls City High seniors to graduate high school with 28-32 college credit hours earned, before even stepping foot on campus their freshman year of college.
