Drought continues in Missouri River basin
River meeting at Nebraska City scheduled Oct. 26

PLATTSMOUTH - Drought conditions in the Missouri River Basin above Sioux City, Iowa, continued throughout the month of August.
Division Chief John Remus said reservoir flows in August were much lower than average.
Seventy-four percent of the basin is experiencing abnormally dry or drought conditions, with seven percent of that being extreme or exceptional drought.
Gavins Point Dam releases will be set to provide navigation flow support at a level 500 cfs above minimum service at all four target locations (Sioux City, Omaha, Nebraska City, and Kansas City). Season support will end on Nov. 28 at the mouth of the Missouri River.
Remus expects Gavins Point to be 12,000 cfs a second for a second year in a row.
The public meeting schedule this fall concerning the river includes a meeting on October 26 at 6 p.m .at Steinhart Lodge in Nebraska City.
The Missouri River level at Plattsmouth is just over 14 feet today, down about one-half foot in the last week.
The river stage has been below 10 feet at Nebraska City since June 19.
