Nebraska's tackles evenly divided among units in opening loss

"Front seven" contributes 62 percent of tackles against Northwestern

LINCOLN - Nebraska's tackling stats following its season-opening loss 28 to 31 to unranked Northwestern show shared work at every level.

Nebraska, which gave up 224 yards rushing and 314 yards passing,  had two tackles for a loss, no interceptions, no quarterback sacks, one quarterback hurry and one fumble recovery.

Defensive linemen and “edge” rushers had a third of the defense's  81 solo and tackle assists.

Defensive linemen combined for 10 tackles, about 12 percent of the total.

Lineman Colton Feist, a junior from Yutan, Neb., led with five solo tackles.

Senior lineman Devin Drew,  a community college transfer, had the only other solo tackle among defensive linemen.

Stephon Wynn and Ty Robinson had two assists each.

Edge linemen Caleb Tannor, Garrett Nelson and Mathis Ochuan combined for 17 tackles, about 20 percent of the total. Tannor also had a fumble recovery.

The combination of defensive linemen and edge linemen, had about a third of the total tackles and assists.

Linebackers had 24 tackles, nearly 30 percent of the total. Luke Reimer and Nick Henrich combined for 10 solo tackles. Eteva Mauga-Clements and Ernest Hausmann added one solo tackle each.

Defensive backs Marques Buford,  Myles Farmer, Tommi Hill, Isaac Gifford,  Chris Kolarevic, Quinton Newsome, Omar Brown and Ashton Hausmann had 27 tackles, about 33 percent of the total.

Buford's 7 tackles and assists was fourth highest on the team behind Reimer, Ochuan and Henrich.

Quarterback Casey Thompson also had a solo tackle.
