Two Omaha men sentenced on separate meth-related charges
OMAHA, Neb. -- Two men from Omaha were sentenced today in federal court for separate meth-related charges.
Acting U.S. Attorney Steven Russell said 30-year-old Jonathon Miller was sentenced to 205 months in prison for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and assaulting law enforcement with a dangerous or deadly weapon.
According to court documents, Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputies and the Metro Fugitive Task Force were trying to find a person with a felony warrant on Oct. 6, 2021. They reportedly received a tip that one of the warrant suspects was at a Super 8 Motel in Omaha and driving a white Chevy Impala with in-transit tags. The officers found the vehicle in the hotel parking lot and set up surveillance.
Officers said they drove an unmarked police vehicle toward the Impala after the saw a woman and two men approach the vehicle. The officer turned on his lights, identified himself as police and asked to speak with the woman. Miller was the reported driver of the vehicle and put it in reverse, backed up towards law enforcement, struck officer vehicles with the Impala and fled the scene at a high rate of speed, authorities said. He also reportedly hit a privately owned vehicle and the motel.
DCSO said Miller lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a fence at a nearby construction site. All three suspects tried to flee on foot before being caught. The Impala was impounded and found to reportedly contain half a pound of methamphetamine in a bag on the floorboard of the vehicle, along with hypodermic needles and additional drug paraphernalia. Miller’s two passengers remain under indictment and pending trial.
Russell also said that 23-year-old Jesse Neri was sentenced for distribution of methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, and conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Neri received a 210-month prison sentence for each count, to be served concurrently.
Neri reportedly with his brother, 30-year-old Oswaldo Neri, of Mexico, and others to distribute methamphetamine in Omaha in early 2021.
According to court documents, an undercover DEA agent posed as a customer on Jan. 4 and 5, 2021. The agent contacted a known Mexico-based methamphetamine supplier to order one pound of methamphetamine for purchase. The agent and the Mexican source of supply reportedly agreed that a local party would meet the customer at an Omaha business to complete the transaction with a payment of $4,100 for the pound.
Investigators said they met and bought the meth. They later identified the Neri brothers as the people that the agent met with to deliver the meth. The investigators used a search warrant on the Neri brothers' Omaha residence on Jan. 12, 2021. They arrested the brothers and reportedly found six more pounds of methamphetamine in Oswaldo's bedroom closet along with additional evidence of distribution.
Jesse pleaded guilty on the morning his trial was to begin, leaving Oswaldo as the only defendant at trial. A federal jury in the District of Nebraska found Oswaldo guilty of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine on Feb. 10. Oswaldo will be sentenced Oct. 5.
