Dunbar Car Show impacts experience
DUNBAR – It was a weekend of firsts for Dunbar Days, not only because the village event has not been held in recent memory but for contestants like Fred Manley who carried away his first trophy.
He and his wife Judy attended Dunbar High School and he was thrilled with the trophy his Pontiac Firebird brought at the car show.
Manley: “Great. First one I ever got.”
A truck driver his whole live, the car was important to his family.
Manley: “I bought if for the kids to drive to school when they turned 16. Three of them drove it to Millard South – it was green then.”
He began restoring it in 1988 and says his son still takes it to car shows.
Village Board member Randy Cunningham said the group Dunbar Impacting Community Experience did a fantastic job organizing the car show.
Cunningham: “We had a really good turnout. We’ve got over 30 vehicles. We’ve got tractors, we’ve got a Studebaker that’s modified, we’ve got a Ford with a Chevy engine in it, we’ve got motorcycles. The turnout was very good for the first year.”
Aspen Warriner said Dunbar DICE got its start with a desire to make improvements to the village park.
Warriner: “Trying to building community. That’s our idea. We want to build community and bring our little town back and have fun in the meantime.”
Her mom Lorna organized the car show.
