George E. Bowers, age 80 of Nebraska City passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at his home.

George Edward Bowers was born on November 26, 1941 in Grand Island, NE; the son of John and Dorothy E. (Smith) Bowers.  He attended school in Grand Island and graduated from the Grand Island High School with the Class of 1959.

He was united in marriage to Susan Kay Williamson on February 6, 1960 in Commerce City, CO and to this union two daughters were born:  Debbie and Tina.

He entered the United States Air Force on June 7, 1960 and made the military his career, serving 22 years.  He served during the Vietnam War, receiving many decorations and medals and retired from the Air Force on October 31, 1982.

George worked at the Kwik Shop and for Region V Services prior to owning and operating his business; Bowers Heating and Air Conditioning.  He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, River City Classic Car Club and he was a licensed pilot who loved to fly!.

George is survived by his daughters:  Debbie Hodt Walker (Paul) and Tina Baker all of Nebraska City, NE; six grandchildren:  Danny Click, Kevin Click, Eddie Click, Erin Knapp, Steve Knapp and Rebecca Kurtzer; 11 great-grandchildren:  Bella, Lea, Lila, George, Jaxson, Sam, Millie, Liam, Hudson, Max and Bronce; sister-in-law Lisa Williamson of Nebr. City; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Susan on March 1, 2017, brothers:  Richard and John Lee, a sister Joan and his parents.

Funeral Services will be held Monday (Aug. 1) at 2:00 p.m. at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City with Steve Knapp officiating.  Burial will follow in the Wyuka Cemetery at Nebr. City with complete military honors conducted by the U.S. Air Force Funeral Honors Detail and the Talmage American Legion Post.

Visitation will begin Monday morning at 9:00 and continue until service time.
