Darrell Allgood, age 87 of Nebraska City passed away on Saturday; July 16, 2022 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebraska City, NE.

He was born on April 26, 1935 in Peru, NE; the son of Orville Clyde and Ellen Pearl (Applegate) Allgood.  He was raised in and around Peru and graduated from Peru Prep. High School with the Class of 1953. 

Darrell moved to Nebraska City in 1958 and worked on the missile bases, for Meadow Gold Milk and other various places before beginning his career selling cars at various dealerships.  He was known as an honest hard worker who was kind and friendly and had a quick wit.  He loved to dance and play cards with his buddies.  He was an original member of the Nebr. City Rescue Squad and volunteered for some 21 years.  He was also a Jaycee member and served in the Army National Guard.

Darrell married Sandra West on Nov. 9, 1957 in Peru, NE and to this union three children were born:  Dara, Lyn and Amy.  Sandra preceded him in death on Nov. 20, 1998.  Darrell married Janice (Carlisle) Harger on Dec. 14, 2002 in Nebr. City, NE.

In addition to his wife Sandra, he was preceded in death by his parents, brothers:  Eldon, Marty and infant brother Orville; sisters:  Laquita Rubenking (Roy), Pearl Rainforth and Deb Sammons.

He is survived by his wife Janice of Nebr. City; children:  Dara Kirkbride (John) of Medicine Lodge, KS, Lyn Kohrs (Jeff) of Nebr. City and Amy McAlexander (Ernie) of Falls City, NE; step-children:  Wendy Brunsman (Barry) and Andrew Harger (Fernanda) all of Chicago, IL; grandchildren:  Abby Roelofsen, Kevin Kirkbride, Scott McAlexander, Jared Kohrs, Maddie Kohrs and Trevor Kohrs; step-grandchildren:  Jonathan Brunsman and Ella Brunsman; brothers:  Ronald Allgood (Darlene) of Nebr. City and Arnold Allgood (Cathy) of Nacogdoches, TX; sisters and brothers in law:  Mary Allgood of Nebr. City, David Rainforth of Lincoln, NE, Vance West (Linda) of Lincoln, NE, Boyd West (Kathy) of Omaha, NE, Joyce Bennett (Ben) of Omaha, NE, Jim Carlisle (Nancy) of Lincoln, NE and Jennifer Durr (Keith) of Nixa, MO; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday (July 20) at 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Church in Nebraska City with Rev. Michael Schmidt officiating.   Those attending the services are asked to honor Darrell and dress casually refraining from wearing neckties and suit coats.  Burial will be held at a later date in Wyuka Cemetery at Nebr. City.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday (7/19) at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society for Cancer Research.
