PLATTSMOUTH - The Plattsmouth City Council was told Tuesday that current zoning regulations may hinder the former Midwest Hop Yard from a transition into a housing development.

Wiles Development had drawn up plans for a 29-lot subdivision, but did not formally pursue it because of city regulations that require two routes in and out of the development. Annette Wiles told the council that the state fire marshal codes allow a single access for subdivisions of 30 lots or less.

City councilman Jim Forrest said he is disappointed the subdivision has not advanced and said Plattsmouth’s rules are more strict than nearby cities.

Wiles Development may seek a conditional use permit for a single egress to the property with a connection to Highway 75.
