FALLS CITY –  A Topeka, Kan., man is held in Richardson County on allegations that he broke into a motel office, assaulted the owner, stole keys and opened several rooms before an altercation with a guest.

An arrest affidavit says police arrived at the Check In Motel in Falls City to find the front door smashed and the guest fighting with Brown in the parking lot. The officer stepped between the men and says 37-year-old Tyler Brown informed him that he wanted to rent five rooms, but the clerk would not rent them.

The owner of the motel told police that Brown beat down the door with a tree branch and used the branch to hit the owner in the shoulder when he tried to stop Brown from taking the keys.

An ambulance was called for the owner.

A guest told police Brown opened the door to his room and refused to leave, saying this is his country, using a racial slur and ordering the guest to leave.

The guest says he got Brown out of the room and into the parking lot as police arrived.

Brown is charged with robbery, burglary, assault and criminal mischief. The county attorney has also filed a habitual criminal enhancement.
