OMAHA, Neb. -- A Douglas County deputy is safe after being rear-ended during a traffic stop in Omaha on June 29.

Chief Deputy Wayne Hudson said the deputy was on the side of the road on I-80 just east of the 84th Street exit.

Authorities said the deputy and his K-9 officer were sitting in their cruiser with a driver of a stopped vehicle when they were struck from behind. The K-9 was in a protective enclosure.

Chief Hudson said the deputy is sore but is also expected to be okay.
