Falls City man jailed for willful reckless driving
FALLS CITY – Cody Johansen, 36, of Falls City was sentenced 360 days in jail for terroristic threats and a consecutive 90 days for willful reckless driving on May 23.
Police arrested Johansen after responding to a report of a pickup truck jumping the curb and going into a yard in an attempt to run over a woman.
Judge Julie Smith told Johansen at sentencing that she had read the victim impact statement from Johansen’s ex-wife Crystal Kirkendall and noted that he had threatened to hire her killer earlier in the day.
The judge said an eye witness told investigators that the pickup accelerated over the curb and two women had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit.
Smith: “Had things gone differently, you could have caused serious injury or worse.”
Defense Attorney Dylan Handley said Johansen regrets his actions. He said incarceration is not needed to deter Mr. Johansen.
The judge also revoked Johansen’s driver’s license for a year and ordered a year of post-release supervision.
