Jerry Verne Jacobson
Jerry Verne Jacobson, 78, entered heaven on June 8, 2022. Jerry was born in Nebraska City, Nebraska to Edna and Verne Jacobson. Jerry, “Papa”, "Jake", was a Nebraska farm boy raised in Dunbar, Julian, Union and Otoe, Nebraska graduating from Dunbar High School in 1961. He married Ruth Rogge in 1965. He then attended Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska. There he earned his bachelor's degree in both education and arts, graduating in 1967.
Following graduation, he began his career as a high school teacher. He continued his education at the University of Nebraska where he earned his master’s degree in Education in 1970, then an additional master’s degree in education administration and supervision in 1972. He then transitioned into the role of assistant principal at the high school, and then into the role of an elementary school principal. His career as an educator perfectly prepared him for his greatest achievement: becoming a father to his two daughters, Janelle and Justeen.
In 1975, his career path then led Jerry and his family to Hutchinson, Kansas where Jerry became the assistant superintendent of the Buhler school district. 1978 brought another move to Montrose, Colorado where he began his career at Colorado Ute Electric. After his divorce from Ruth, he met and married Judie Wiggins (Jacobson) and soon after, moved to Northglenn, Colorado. Jerry then began working at Tri-State Generation and Transmission, Inc. for the next 29 years and retired in 2013 as the director of organization and development. He bought a home in Thornton in 1994 where he happily lived until his passing.
Jerry was a man of God, a man of dignity, and took pride in his daughters and grandchildren, who were at the center of his life. Jerry was a true friend to many, and his kind, selfless spirit will continue to live on through his daughters, Janelle Collins and Justeen Casias. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Dakota Collins, Kaleb Collins, Carmen Casias, Courtney Casias, and Faith Collins, as well as his sisters, Sharon DeVries, Dianne Botsch and Patty Morris, along with many wonderful nieces, nephews and their beautiful families.
