Johnson displays coloring contest chickens

JOHNSON – The Johnson Rag has announced the winners from the 171 entries in the 33^rd year of the chicken coloring contest.

First place winners in 13 age groups are Henry Behrends, Lennon Volker, Brock Schultz, Harper Volker, Greyson Lambert, Michael Woerlen, Ainslee Lambert, Malachi Gerdes, Calum Peck, Lilly Rogge, Waler Heyen, Grace Baltensperger and Bruce Sohnholtz.

Emily Blessing was recognized for most original.

Winners receive a cash prize from the Johnson Chamber of Commerce.

 

The 58^th annual chicken BBQ weekend is scheduled June 17-19 in Johnson.

Events Saturday include slow pitch softball, coed sand volleyball, 5K run, Lorretta’s Donut Wagon and alumni banquet.

• 11 a.m. – Vintage motorcycle display in garage at 302 Walnut St.
• 11 a.m. – Car show

• 1 p.m. – Huff N Puff garden tractor pull
• 1 p.m. – Community center and library open house
• 1 p.m. – Cornhole tournament
• 4 p.m. – Ping Pong Ball drop
• 5 pm. – 58^th annual Father’s Day Chicken Barbecue
• 5 p.m. – J-B FFA serving ice cream
• 6 p.m.  – Southeast Community Band concert
