Legion Baseball: Auburn handles Syracuse behind Worthey's one-hitter

AUBURN - It was Aiden Worthey's night as the Auburn Post 23 right-hander hurled a one-hitter in a 14-0 victory Wednesday night over Syracuse Post 100 at Tushla Field.
Worthey took a no-hitter into the fifth, but with two outs and two strikes, Syracuse's Jase Voorhees reached on an infield single. Worthey retired the following batter to secure the shutout victory.
Syracuse squandered a number of scoring chances early against Worthey as walks were an issue for the Auburn pitcher, but it was unable to come away with a timely hit to change the momentum of the game. Syracuse stranded 5 baserunners on the night.
Instead, it was Auburn providing the momentum swing as it struck for 11 runs in the bottom of the fourth to break the game wide open.
Auburn sent 16 men to the plate in the frame and scored the 11 runs on just three hits. Syracuse issued 15 free passes to Auburn hitters between walks, hit batsmen and errors.
Braden Gerdes had two singles and three RBIs at the plate to lead Auburn.
