OMAHA — The Creighton University Mid-America Business Conditions Index, a leading economic indicator for the nine-state region stretching from Minnesota to Arkansas, rose above growth neutral for the 24th straight month.

The report says manufacturers have added jobs at a modest pace, wholsesale inflation has climbed, commodity prices are up over 21 percent over the last 12 months and six of 10 supply managers expect a economic downturn in the next six months.

The report says Nebraska’s leisure and hospitality industries have benefited from growth in the farm economy and food processing, but employment in the industry of 4,500 remains 4.7 percent below pre-pandemic levels.

Ernie Gross, director of the university’s economic forecasting group,  said supply chain disruptions remain the greatest challenge to supply managers for the rest of 2022.
