(Peru, Neb.)—Earlier this spring Peru State cross country head coach signed Alex Caraveo for the upcoming 2022-23 season. Caraveo is from Chappell, Nebraska where he attended Creek Valley High School.

Caraveo is the nephew of Victor Caraveo. He plans to study Biology while attending Peru State College. Caraveo has a myriad of accolades throughout his high school career academically and athletically.

He was the cross country team captain at Creek Valley High School, he had a personal record of 19:35 while running cross country, he started on the basketball team and made it to state track his freshman year running the 4x8. Academically he was a member of one acts, FBLA, student council and was on the Principal and Superintendent's Honor Roll.

Here is what head coach James Cole had to say about Caraveo…

"I've been able to talk with Alex a couple times and saw him compete in the 800m at the Class D state track championships on May 21st," said Cole. "His signing was a great experience of a community rallying behind one of their own. After the athletic director made the announcement, the gym quickly filled up and congratulated him on getting signed to compete at the collegiate level."

Cole continued…

"His football coach gave him a hug and there were a lot of smiles and support for him. Alex was the last wildcard to make it to the 2022 Nebraska Class D state track meet for the 800 and was able to take fifth out of the 12 runners in his heat. I look forward to working with Alex because I believe he makes the best of every opportunity and will work hard to push himself and the team."
