River Country teams begin march towards state baseball tournament
NEBRASKA CITY - It has been a tough spring sports season so far as mother nature has left its mark on competition all season long with cold temperatures, moisture and sometimes even severely high winds capable of producing brush fires. But athletes across River Country have battled the elements and each other all season long.
Baseball is probably most impacted by weather, but the teams managed to get majority of games in this year to arrive at this point. The postseason.
District tournament action begins one day later because of weather, but teams will start the quest to state Friday. The teams are seeded in each of the 12 districts based on wins, losses and strength of schedule. Each win and loss give a team a certain amount of wildcard points which is used to determine seeding in regular season tournaments and postseason tournaments, including state.
The winners of the 12 districts across Class A and B receive automatic bids to the state tournament. Four additional teams advance to the eight-team state tournament as wildcards, two in each class. The state tournament begins May 13 for Class A and May 14 for Class B in Omaha.
