NEBRASKA CITY - It's another day and another Nebraska City High School athlete has signed a Letter of Intent to play a sport at the next level.

Geraldine Rojas signed to play soccer at Southeast Community College next fall on Wednesday afternoon in front of her teammates, family and her future head coach at SCC, John Hakari.

Rojas is the third Pioneer athlete to sign on to play a collegiate sport in the last seven days as Chase Brown signed to play basketball at Peru State last week and Pacie Lee signed to wrestle at Iowa Central Monday.

Rojas was sold on SCC after seeing a practice and picturing how well-suited she is for the program.

Rojas: "I fit really well in the program and really liked when I went to see [SCC] practice."

When asked what she is most excited about when arriving in Beatrice next fall, Rojas had one thing on her mind.

Rojas: "To play."

She said she has fallen in love with the sport since her freshman year and described herself as a really hard worker. Hakari agreed that Rojas is a hard worker and said that what he loved most about Rojas was the way she competed in a game Nebraska City lost while he was in attendance.

Hakari: "What really sold me on her was a five-nil loss to Elkhorn North I believe, but she really worked hard. She pressed on defense when [Nebraska City] didn't have the ball, supported her teammates when they had the ball and she showed quality technical skills when the ball did come to her."

Those technical skills will pay off down the road when the season rolls around, and when Rojas takes the field for the first time, she will be living out dream she first envisioned her freshman year.

Rojas: "And since [my freshman year], my dream was to play soccer."
