Pickup slams into truck hauling hams at highway intersection

AVOCA – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office reports an injury accident Friday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 34 and 50.
A Ford F350 Super Duty owned by TH Construction and driven by 58-year-old Royce Stephens of Macedonia, Iowa, struck a truck and semi-trailer that was traveling east on Highway 34. The truck, owned by Hirschbach Motor Lines, was driven by 65-year-old Philip Kozak Jr. of Avon Park, Fla.
The truck came to rest on its side on the shoulder of Highway 34.
Weeping Water rescue took both drivers and a passenger, 63-year-old Denise Kozak, to Bergan Mercy Hospital for observation.
Three emergency tow services over an eight-hour period were used to transfer the load of hams from the damaged trailer to another trailer and remove debris at the scene.
