Crab Orchard woman imprisoned after pursuit

TECUMSEH – Tanya Binnick, 44, was accused of keeping children in an uninhabitable house at Crab Orchard, threatening neighbors with a baseball bat when they tried to intervene and eluding sheriff’s deputies on a pursuit into Kansas when they came with court orders.
On Monday, Judge Ricky Schreiner sentenced her to up to 10 years in prison.
Two years was for the pursuit in August of 2020, when deputies say they saw her car speeding away as they approached the house, which had no electricity and water pressure so low the toilets could not be flushed.
Radio traffic indicated that she took rock and minimum maintenance roads to try and keep ahead of deputies, but spike strips were used to flatten her tires before she reached the state line. Binnick continued as the tires shredded and detached from the wheels. After crossing the state line, she ran on foot until Kansas authorities picked her up.
She was sentenced to six to 10 years for possession of a stolen firearm in a June of 2019 case. Binnick also entered a no contest plea to child abuse in June of 2019.
