NEBRASKA CITY - Nebraska State Sen. Julie Slama posted on Facebook Thursday morning confirming allegations that Nebraska governor candidate Charles Herbster sexually assaulted her in 2019.

In her post, Sen. Slama asked for privacy and says she is not coming forward for political reasons, but told the truth when asked what happened.

A Nebraska Examiner report says Slama confirmed that as she walked by Herbster in 2019 he reached up her skirt, without her consent, and touched her inappropriately.

The reports say the incident happened in the middle of a crowded ballroom at a Douglas County Republican Party event.

At that time, Slama had been appointed to the District 1 legislative seat representing southeast Nebraska.

Herbster denies the allegations.
