BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Authorities were called to a high school in an Omaha suburb for a reported assault during which a teacher and two students were injured on Tuesday.

The Bellevue Police Department said that officers responded to a call around 10:30 a.m. on April 12 to Bellevue East High School for a report of a teacher being assaulted. At the time, authorities believed the teacher was being assaulted by a hammer.

Officials said that when officers arrived, they learned that two 16-year-old male students had reportedly been involved in a physical altercation in shop class.

Authorities said that the teacher along with other students broke up the altercation, and then one student picked up a hammer and left the school.

BPD said that the student with the hammer had been detained by police outside of the school without incident. Officers said that the hammer was never possessed or used during the altercation.

Officials said that after the investigation was done, one juvenile received an arrest citation for assault in the third degree and was released to a parent. The other juvenile received an arrest citation for assault in the third degree and terroristic threats and was released to a parent.

Authorities said the teacher and the two juveniles all sustained minor injuries that were treated at the scene.
