OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Hundreds were up bright and early Sunday morning for the 41st Annual Corporate Cup.

Over 3,000 runners hit the streets in Aksarben Village for the races. Events ranged from a 10k down to a kids run. The event is one of Omaha’s longest ‘running’ traditions.

Dr. Bryan Krajicek ran Sunday’s 10k event and is on the board of the American Lung Association in Nebraska. “I felt great during it!... It’s kind of a runner’s day, to be honest. It felt a little breezy at the start,” says Dr. Krajicek.

“Everyone here has a tie to the mission of our organization. Whether it’s someone who was pushed in a stroller 40 years ago by a parent and they’re connected to the running side of the event, or if they’ve lost someone to lung cancer,” says Executive Director for the American Lung Association in Nebraska, Julia McCarville.

The funds raised will go towards the American Lung Association, specifically towards the research and education that’s being done right here in Omaha.

“90 cents of every dollar that we raise here today at the Corporate Cup will go directly to support our mission of education, advocacy and research and to end lung disease and lung cancer,” says McCarville.

“Just learning all the great work the American Lung Association does, both locally and nationally, I feel this is a really important thing for Omaha to support,” says Dr. Krajicek.

Plus, a little friendly competition never hurt.

“I ran with a couple of friends and I actually challenged my fellows.,” says Dr. Krajicek. “If they can beat me, I cover a night call. So, you will see me in the ICU one of these upcoming nights. But I crushed the other guys, so I’m feeling ok about that.”

Organizers say they’re still working towards their fundraising goal of $300,000. They’ve nearly reached it.

Even after Sunday, supporters can still donate up until May 14th.
