Nebraska City's Arbor Day begins Friday, April 29
Tradition dates back to J. Sterling Morton's day set aside to plant trees

NEBRASKA CITY – Nebraska City will continue a tradition that started in 1872 with its Arbor Day celebration on Friday, April 29, and through the weekend.
Originally proposed by Nebraska City resident J. Sterling Morton as a day to focus on tree planting in a mostly barren state, Arbor Day has grown into an environmental powerhouse of a holiday, celebrated in all 50 states and in many countries around the world.
Festivities include a children’s program at Arbor Lodge State Park and commemorative tree planting by the 2022 Arbor Day honoree and tree planter of the year.
