Blue pinwheels show commitment to preventing child abuse
NEBRASKA CITY – Blue pinwheels are being placed in courthouse lawns in observance of Child Abuse Prevention Month in April.
Debbie Greene of Southeast Nebraska Community Action said the blue pinwheels serve as a reminder of childhood happiness and the bright future all children deserve. Residents are encouraged to wear blue on Friday, April 22, to show support in preventing child abuse and neglect.
SENCA CASA is encouraging volunteers to work as court advocates for children directly impacted by abuse and neglect.
CASA served 54 of the 94 children in the juvenile court system in Johnson, Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee and Richardson counties in 2021. The remaining 40 children were monitored by the CASA coordinator, meaning there are children who need someone to advocate for them.
The pinwheels are planned at courthouse in Johnson, Pawnee, Nemaha and Richardson counties.
