FALLS CITY – The primary election ballot in Richardson County features the mayor’s race in Humboldt and sales tax issues.

There are three candidates for Humboldt mayor to replace Robert Mendenhall, who is not seeking re-election. Mendenhall, 69, said he thinks everyone is ready for younger people in city government.

Candidates are Dyann Herr, Ted Schuler and Ron Rathbone. Two will advance to the general election.

Mayor Mendenhall said the city’s financial condition is better than when he took office four years ago and he urges the new mayor to keep working toward financial stability. He said it will help a great deal if the city sales tax passes.

Humboldt voters will decide on a 1.5 percent sales tax.

Falls City voters will decide on a half cent increase in the sales tax.  The half cent increase will be used for public infrastructure and is scheduled to expire in 10 years.

The Village of Preston is voting on whether to abolish incorporation of the village.

Some candidates will automatically advance to the general election in November, including candidates for Humboldt city council, Falls City mayor and Falls City city council.

Also advancing are county board and school board candidates.
