AUBURN - Nebraska City scored in all but one inning Monday night, and capitalized on every Auburn mistake to come out with an 11-3 victory at Tushla Field in Auburn.

The Pioneers sophomore pitcher Sloan Pelican was not only a force on the mound but at the plate as well. Pelican's 2-out double in the first inning set up junior Colton Snyder's RBI single for the games first run.

The offense never really slowed down for the Pioneers either as they banged out 12 hits on the evening. Senior Zack Tesarek hit a solo home run to lead off the third inning and junior Cael Kreifel added a 2-run homer in the sixth.

At the plate, Tesarek and Kreifel combined for 6 hits and five RBIs to lead the Nebraska City offense.

Auburn scored all three of its runs in the fourth inning thanks to an error followed by a 2-RBI single by junior Austin Lavigne. But after the 3-run fourth, the Bulldogs managed just two more baserunners the rest of the game.

Auburn committed five errors on defense, all of which led to runs or extended innings for Nebraska City.

Pelican overcame three walks and two hit batsman on the mound, punching out eight Bulldog's in six innings to earn the victory. The right-hander surrendered just three hits and three unearned runs.

Braden Gerdes got the start on the bump for Auburn, making it through five innings, allowing seven runs, and five earned on eight hits. The junior is credited with the loss.

Junior Zach Bassinger relieved Pelican in the seventh and struck out the first two batters he faced before allowing a 2-out double to Bulldog catcher Travon Shaw. Bassinger then struck out Landon Casey to end the game.

The Pioneers pitching staff struck out 11 batters on the night.

The Bulldogs will travel to Plattsmouth on Mar. 31 and the Pioneers go on the road Mar. 29 to face Wahoo/Bishop Neumann/Lincoln Lutheran.
