The Nebraska City Pioneer Baseball team took to the road for the first time in the 2022 season as they traveled to Bennington to take on the #4 Badgers.  Despite outhitting the Badgers 6 hits to 5, they would come up short as the Badgers would score 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th to take the matchup 5-3.

Both teams were held scoreless in the first inning, but it was the Badgers getting on the board first as they would score 3 runs off of Pioneer starter Cael Kreifel.  Those runs would come on a Keaton Smith single to score Ben LeClair, a wild pitch that would score Ethan Nguen and a Cody Harris double that would plate Smith to take a 3-0 lead after 2 innings.

Both teams were held scoreless through the next 2 innings when the Pioneers would get on the board in the 5th inning on an RBI walk by Cael Kreifel.  With one out, Hayden Coyle grounded into a fielder's choice that would score Nolan Beccard and cut the Bennington lead to 3-2.

The Pioneers would then tie the ballgame in the top of the 6th on a single by Sloan Pelican to score Ryan Bohling.  Bennington would then respond in the bottom of the 6th inning with a 2 RBI double by Harris that would score Caden Anderson and Seth Wempen.  Reliever Keegen Bourg would then get the Pioneers to go down in order in the top of the 7th to win the game 5-3.

Zach Tesarek took the loss for the Pioneers in relief.  The righty would go 1 inning, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits and striking out 1.  Cael Kreifel started the game for the Pioneers.  The right hander went 5 innings, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits and striking out 3.  Keegen Bourg got the win for Bennington in relief after going 2 2/3 innings and allowing 1 run on 3 hits.
