Wayne Leroy Hardy, age 80, of Sidney, IA, passed from this life on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at Select Specialty Hospital - Omaha, surrounded by family.

Wayne was born to Lawrence Lester and Myra Iola Emmiline (Fithian) Hardy on June 20, 1941, in Pawnee City, NE.  He grew up on the family farm east of Sidney, where he was one of three children.  After graduating from Sidney High School, he attended industrial drafting school in Chicago, IL, for a brief period of time, before returning home due to his father’s illness.

Wayne married Dorothy “June” Carlock, September 23, 1964, in Riverton, IA.  To this union, two daughters were born.  Wayne and June divorced in 1994.

Wayne was a hard working man, and enjoyed farming for many years.  He owned Hardy’s Hardware, as well as a small engine repair shop.  His greatest passion, however, was carpentry, and his skills are evident in the five log homes that he constructed over the years, along with numerous other building and remodeling projects.  His goal was perfection; things needed to be right.  Even in Wayne’s final moments, he inquired about the concrete of the parking lot surrounding the hospital, and wanted to be certain of the electrical wire used that led to the breaker box near his room.

Through the years, Wayne enjoyed activities such as square dancing, bowling, and family vacations to Table Rock Lake, which included fishing, boating and water skiing.  He was certain to keep horses saddled and motorcycles running for his girls and their friends.  Wayne cared for his family, and blessed his daughters with childhood memories that will forever be cherished.

Wayne spent the latter years of his life with companion Deanna Jeanne “Jeannie” Countryman, caring for her unconditionally, until her death in 2020.

Preceding Wayne in death were his parents and Jeannie.  He is survived by his daughter Brenda Emery and son-in-law, Jerry Emery, of Hopkins, MO, Carrie Hardy of Glenwood, IA, grandchildren Kelton, Karlie, Kade, Presley, Chloe and Camry, great grandchildren Jade and Oliver, sisters Alexandra Hardy-Shamaya of Pie Town, NM, and Shirley Flack of Red Oak, IA, aunt Violet Lytle of Mart, TX, nieces and nephews, numerous cousins and special friend, Cindy Hale.

Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at the Sidney, IA Cemetery.  There will be no viewing or visitations.  In lieu of flowers, memorials will go to the family for funeral expenses.

The Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney, IA is in charge of arrangements.
