ROCK PORT - A burn ban has been ordered for Atchison County, Mo.

County commissioners declared extreme fire danger due to dry conditions and say the fire danger will continue until sufficient rainfall occurs.

The county’s March 1 ordinance prohibits careless use of smoking materials, any fires except in fireplaces and barbecue grills and all burning of trash, debris or fields.

Emergency management also reports a tornado drill at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 8, for Severe Weather Awareness Week.
