NEBRASKA CITY - Following the deadline for incumbents to file for re-election, Otoe County has several seats open.

Nebraska City City Council has open seats for finance commissioner and street commissioner. There is also an open seat on the Airport Authority.

Syracuse City Council has one seat open. Incumbent Jerry Werner has filed, but Laramie Werner did not file.

She said since joining the city council, she has completed her nursing school and is working full time at nights.

Werner: "Though I have appreciated the privilege of public service the last four years, I feel that I am no longer able to put in the time that is necessary to fully serve as I want in the position of council member."

Otoe County board incumbents Jim Thurman, Rick Freshman and Jerad Sornson has filed. Thurman is challenged by Dan Giittinger for the first district seat.

The Nebraska City School Board has four open seats and three incumbent filings of Kent Blum, Stacie Higgins and Stephen Luther.

Filing for Syracuse School Board are incumbents Edward Zastera and Barry Janssen and Chad Loeker of Syracuse.
