OMAHA, Neb. -- Authorities have arrested a man in connection to the murder of 19-year-old Jazsmine Washington.

Omaha Police announced on Monday that they had arrested 26-year-old Davelle Giles of Omaha. They booked Giles in connection to the murder of Washington, which happened on July 4, 2021. 

Giles was booked for second-degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony. 

On the morning of July 4th last year, Omaha responded to a caller reporting multiple gunshots in the area. The incident left one dead and five injured, OPD officials said. 

The Omaha Police Department said that officers responded to the area of 24th and Lake Street where multiple gunshots were heard. 

OPD officials said that when officers arrived to 2311 North 24th Street, they located a female suffering from a gunshot wound. 

Authorities said that Omaha Fire Department medics transported Washington to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries. 

Additional victims arrived to the hospital in private vehicles - two 20-year-olds, a 26-year-old, a 35-year-old, and a 50-year-old. All five were injured by gunfire, receiving non-life threatening injuries.
