OMAHA, NE – State Senator Machaela Cavanaugh filed for re-election to the Nebraska Unicameral on Tuesday.

Elected to this office in 2018, Senator Cavanaugh said, “It has been a privilege and honor to serve the people of District 6 for the past four years.”

Cavanaugh said that her re-election campaign will remain centered on the issues she focused on previously on the campaign trail and while serving in office.

“I intend to continue to work on important issues that affect all of us in our daily lives but especially focus on policies to improve the lives of women, children and our most vulnerable citizens,” said Cavanaugh.

“In the past four years I’ve gained valuable understanding of serving in the Legislature. Experience is key to be an effective member of our Unicameral. My experience includes creating a special investigative oversight committee for child welfare, as well as taking part in a historic special session on redistricting. I look forward to continuing to work for my constituents and all Nebraskans.”

She serves in the Nebraska Legislature with her brother John Cavanaugh. Her dad, John, also served in the Nebraska Legislature from 1972 - 76 and served as a U.S. Congressman for Nebraska’s Second Congressional District from 1977 - 80.
