Mary Ellen Grundman, age 94, of Nebraska City died January 24, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family.  Mary Ellen was born November 20, 1927 in Nebraska City, the daughter of Herman Christian and Mary (Helm) Wurtele.  She married Allan Cole “Bud” Grundman December 8, 1947 in Nebraska City. In 1957 Bud and Mary Ellen moved to a farm near Percival, IA and lived in Iowa until the 2011 flood when they returned to Nebraska City. She loved gardening and landscaping their yard.  Mary Ellen was a member of Bethel United Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school and served in the Women’s Fellowship and the Steam Wagon Questers. She was very interested in items from the depression era and antiques.  She spent many hours at auctions and garage sales and loved to refinish the treasures she found. Bud and Mary Ellen enjoyed many fishing and skiing trips with family, cruised in the Caribbean, and traveled to Spain and Hawaii with friends.  Her greatest love was for her dear family and friends.  

 

Survivors include her daughters, Janet Grundman of Kansas City, MO, Laurie Trombino and Millie Ross, both of Nebraska City; six grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Kay; her brothers and sisters, Ralph, Elmer, Earl, Joy, Carl, George, Herman Jr, Wilma Stahlhut and Ella Schreiner.

 

Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Bethel Church in Nebraska City.  Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City.

 

There will be no viewing or visitation. 

 

Memorials are suggested to Bethel Church or Nebraska City Fire EMS Division.
