Tecumseh inmate charged with assault
Inmate caught taking food from dining room
TECUMSEH – Prison inmate Michael Hinojos, 27, is charged with felony assault in February of 2021.
A Johnson County complaint says Hinojos wounded a corrections officer.
Hinojos is serving a two-year sentence for terroristic threats in Buffalo County. He is eligible for parole in February of 2022.
A state Department of Correctional Services press release says a staff member stopped an inmate upon leaving the dining hall and ordered him to dispose of food in his pocket on Feb. 2. The press release says the inmate punched the staff member repeatedly, causing the staff member to receive medical treatment at a local hospital.
Following the 2015 Mother's Day riot at the prison, corrections officials reported that inmates were using food products to make alcohol.
The discovering of inmate stock of alcohol was listed as a trigger factor int he 2015 riot.
