Kuhn recognized for tireless work in Nebraska City
NEBRASKA CITY- Citizens from around Nebraska City gathered at the Rowe Memorial Public Safety Complex to watch resident Jim Kuhn be honored at the ServeNebraska Step Forward Awards.
Kuhn received the Veteran Volunteer Award for his efforts in restoring local buildings and landmarks.
Kuhn also inventoried every building on Central avenue and created timelines showing the history of the buildings--allowing history to live on in Nebraska City.
Kuhn described his desire to be involved in the community and how his background allowed him to help where he could.
"I got involved in some of the other things in Nebraska City," Kuhn said. "I have a construction background, and appraisal background, so I just like to get involved."
Kuhn then explained to the crowd about why he does the work and volunteers so often.
"That's when I'm happiest," Kuhn said. "Don't feel bad for me, I just love doing what I'm doing."
Kuhn said he he doesn't volunteer for the recognition, but appreciated the honor.
"You don't do volunteerism for the awards or the accolades, but it is nice to be recognized," Kuhn said. "I just want to continue doing my work here in Nebraska City."
Kuhn has been a resident in Nebraska City since 1980 and was a good friend of the late Nancy Hoch. Hoch, who passed away in May, was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award during the event for her work in the community.
