NORMAN, Okla – The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla., has included portions of eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa in the enhanced risk for storms today.
The enhanced area includes Omaha and Lincoln, as well as 31,000 square miles around a “moderate’risk” center point in north Iowa.
Plentiful surface heating near and west of the Nebraska and Kansas 'dryline' is expected to intensify weather in the Missouri valley and “race” eastward toward the Mississippi Valley.
Storm downdrafts are expected to result in 55 to 70 mph surface gusts. Super cells and mesovortices pose a threat for stronger wind gust.
The chance for damaging wind is at 30 percent near the Missouri Valley and 15 percent in Norfolk.
