Sheriff alleges fraud in cash for pickup truck deal
Verdon man accused of taking cash for pickup truck that could not be licensed

FALLS CITY – James Kelly, 30, of Verdon is facing a felony theft charge on allegations that sold a vehicle that could not be legally registered.
An arrest warrant was issued Sept. 30 after investigators told the court that Kelly had sold a 2005 Chevrolet pickup to Jordan Lunsford and Daniel Lock in December of 2020, but county officials told the men they could not register the truck because it had a duplicate title.
Prosecutors allege that Kelly got an new, duplicate title after selling the vehicle, but before the men tried to license it.
A sheriff’s office report says deputies arrest Kelly on Oct. 1. He is suspected of possession of an stolen ATV, title fraud and making false statements under oath.
