JULIAN – After a successful restoration of a 1928 filling station, the Julian Preservation Committee is setting its sights on restoration of the old post office.

Where some people might just see old, run-down  buildings, the people of Julian are visioning history and renewal.

The village, known as the largest French settlement in southeast Nebraska 150 years ago, is working to refurbish its old post office.

The building has more recently been a livestock feed store and storage space, but the preservation committee is proposing re-establishing its original look and relocate it near a restored filling station.

The preservation committee hopes to dedicate the space to information about the U.S. Mail Service to small communities, as well as importance of the railroad to the Julian community.

After restoring its square front facade, the JPC would move the old post office to an area near the restored filling station
