SYRACUSE - The Parks and Rec Department painted Eric Fass’ fireman number in big letters in front of the fire station at Syracuse.

The fire chief was hospitalized following an accident at the Otoe County fairgrounds.

He suffered severe brain damage while walking livestock from a building to a ring across the street. The cattle were startled and Fass tripped and hit his head on a curb.
