Tractor show to benefit Paralympian
Eagles to support Cheri Becerra-Madsen for Paralympic Games in Tokyo
NEBRASKA CITY – The Nebraska City Eagles Club will hold a fundraiser for Paralympic qualifier Cheri Beccerra –Madsen at this year’s antique tractor show.
Eagles Club Manager Katie McGinnis appeared before city commissioners Tuesday to apply for a special liquor licenses for a beer garden during the tractor show over the AppleJack Festival.
McGinnis: “This is the third year we’ve done the antique tractor show. The first year benefited Jerry Barrett who had the misfortune of being burned by his tractor and that kind of prompted us to start doing this benefit at the antique tractor show. We do it in accordance with the car show also.”
Madsen, 44, is among 61 athletes nominated to compete for Team USA in this summer’s Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.
Team USA members Tatyana McFadden, Lex Gillette, Raymond Martin and Madsen have at least four Paralympic medals each for a combined 36.
Madsen has qualified for her fourth Paralympic games.
The Eagles Club is also planning a United Way fundraiser on Aug. 15.
Madsen competed in the Paralympic Games in Atlanta in 1996, where she won silver in 100 and 200 meters and bronze in 400 and 800 meters.
She competed at Sydney, Australia, in 2000, winning silzer in the 200 and gold in the 100 and 200 meters.
After raising a family, she re-entered competition in 2013 to qualify for Team USA.
She qualified for the gamesin Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and won silver in the 400 meters.
