Impala reported stolen from homeless woman in Hastings

FALLS CITY – A Grand Island man is charged for theft in Richardson County on accusations that he stole an Impala belonging to a homeless woman in Hastings.
An arrest affidavit says Eugene Cosey Jr., 50, took the car while the owner was attending a court date.
Deputies say the owner’s personal belongings, including clothes, debit cards and personal identification documents for her and her daughters were in the vehicle.
Cosey was arrested June 22 for suspicion of driving under suspension. He bonded out of jail and left with the 2007 Impala before deputies were informed that it had been reported stolen.
A passenger in the Impala told investigators that she thought they were heading from Omaha back to Hastings, but investigators say they were stopped while heading toward Kansas.
The owner told investigators she knows Cosey, but did not give him permission to take her car.
