SYRACUSE - Fowl gets a step closer.

Randy Dunster, along with his sons Seth,  Kyle and Ryan, presented to the mayor and city council for their consideration to allow fowl  in the city limits of Syracuse.

Dunster and the boys spoke on why they would like to have fowl at their home inside the city limits. Seth informed Mayor Deb Dettmer and council members that it's a great learning experience and the eggs taste better and are healthier for you.

Councilwoman Laramie Werner directed City Attorney Jerry Stilmock to construct an ordinance to be placed on May’s  agenda for discussion.

In other action, new rescue squad members were proposed.

In the past months Tim Wilson of the Syracuse rescue squad has come to the mayor and city council with concerns of being able to staff the Syracuse rescue squad for the Syracuse and surrounding communities.

Wilson recommended approval of Josh Medeiros, Stephanie Grant and Wesley Halverson for consideration upon approval by city council and Syracuse Rescue Squad. 

Attorney Stilmock also informed Wilson that a committee has been formed to reach out to the community for help and filling these positions on the rescue squad.

Calls  for service have increased drastically in Otoe county says Sheriff Colin Caudill,  this has prompted the sheriff's department to create a second dispatch position to help out with these duties.

 

After 20 years of service to the Syracuse Planning Commission Carolyn Gigstad has submitted her resignation to the mayor and Council.

El Portal’s new location in Syracuse is in the last phases of land acquisition. The restaurant is building at the corner of 18th and Kennedy just east of the Dollar General.  

The new Aquatic Center should be seeing walls in the next couple of weeks heading for a May 2021 completion date.
