Cargill odor, sports complex, sidewalk kiosks on council's agenda
City seeks conceptual plans for four-field softball, soccer field at north 19th street complex
The Nebraska City City Council is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. on March 15.
The agenda includes a discussion on odors from the Cargill plant, an unsafe building at 1014 S. Third St., preliminary engineering for the north 19th Street sports complex and purchase of a $411,000 utility truck.
Commissioners will also consider a library grant to host a public conversation and a $320,000 budget amendment to a community block grant project.

City staff proposes a general waiver of the sidewalk obstruction permits for citywide festivals. No permits have been issued in recent history. A minimum of five feet of space must be maintained for sidewalk traffic.
Robb McLean is asking the city for permission to park golf carts that are for sale in front of his store during business hours.
The city has received a bid of $3,500 to demolish at a building at 1014 S. Third St.
City Building Inspector Keith Morrison reports that he has attempted to contact the building owner, but has had no response. He said the property is in disrepair and there is no evidence of any plans to improve the property.
Parks Commissioner Patrick Wehling reports the Nebraska City Softball Association had received a grant to replace the existing backstop on Field 3 at the softball complex. The association proposes replacing the backstop with netting systems to improve spectator visibility and capture more fouls leaving the playing area.
The proposed north 19th Street sports complex has received $30,000 from keno funds to develop a conceptual master plan.
The city proposes going out for bids or a site plan, rough grading and probable construction costs.
The complex would include four fields for softball, as well as soccer fields and supporting amenities.
A farm lease is proposed with Aufenkamp Farms for 23 acres in the Huss Subdivision.
