Fire danger listed as 'very high'

Fire danger forecast to persist until Thursday in much of Nebraska

LINCOLN – The National Weather Service has listed nearly all of Nebraska in the “very high fire danger” zone through Tuesday, with the very high designation expected to prevail in southeast Nebraska through Thursday.

Winds are expected to remain in the 25 to 32 range for most of the state Thursday, the weather service is forecasting wind gust below 15 mph from McCook to Broken Bow.

Relative humidity is expected to remain low south of Lincoln from McCook to Falls City.

The  Nebraska State Fire Marshal issued red flag warnings for western and north central portions of the state on Sunday.

 

On Monday the agency reported that the entire state of Nebraska is listed in a “very high” fire danger due to higher temps, low humidity and wind.

Page County in Iowa is the first in the region to adopt an open burn ban this spring.

Iowa officials noted dangerous fire conditions including low humidity and high winds.

The ban is in effect until further notice.
