SYRACUSE   - Newly elected Syracuse Mayor Deb Dettmer marked the new year this month by listing some of her priorities for her term as mayor.

Ball complex

Continued growth of the ball complex to include looking at placements of basketball courts and tennis courts. These could be placed on the east side of the main parking lot or by the dog park.

Promoting residential growth with three and four bedroom houses for the middle income families. We will look at building codes that need updating to make it more friendly for contractors.

Keeping taxes down is important, but to provide all of the amenities that the community would like to see can be taxing for the city without help from the community.

Streambank stabilization project

Well field project

On the radar:

  • a site to place another playground
  • bike/walk path to the ball complex
  • bridge over northeast side of complex

She said she is looking forward to working with new team members, Justin Stark of Olsson  Associates and new councilman Wesley Halverson.

Dettmer: “In closing, I would like to continue to see business growth, working on vacant and houses in need of repair, lights at the dog park and bathrooms and concessions at the soccer fields."

She says anyone with ideas about business, housing or resources to complete projects to email her at [email protected].
