NEBRASKA CITY – The novel coronavirus pandemic has taken its toll on holiday events for 2020, but activities are still planned for the area.

The 3B Homestead of Murdock is presenting a living nativity drive-through from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for five weekends beginning Nov. 27-29.

Donations are accepted for the event located near Highway 1 and 298th Street.

 

The Humboldt Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce  are sponsoring a Christmas lighting contest. Judging is scheduled on Dec. 17 beginning at 6 p.m. The top prize is $125.

The Falls City Chamber of Commerce has scheduled a drive-thru Santa visit on Friday, Nov. 27 from 6 to 8 pm. at 1501 Stone St.

Syracuse will not be hosting a Holiday Tour of Homes this December, but is encouraging the public to participate in its Holiday Tour of Lights.

Modified Tannenbaum activities begin Tuesday, Dec. 1.

 

 

The Tecumseh Community Christmas on Saturday, Dec. 5, is adjusted due to the pandemic.

The normal Christmas on the Square is not scheduled, but Santa Claus will visit from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the north side of the courthouse. Kids will be able to drive by and take a photo of Santa from a distance. Each child will also receive a ‘goody’ bag. A mailbox will be available for letters to Santa.

The Nebraska City Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a “deck the halls” Christmas decorating contest in place of the annual Trolley Tour of Lights.

 

Entry forms for the contest are due back at the Chamber by Nov. 30. Judging will take place the week of Dec. 7.

Santa Claus is scheduled to arrive at the Otoe County Courthouse lawn for a tree lighting on Nov. 28. Santa will arrive on float and will have a mailbox to receive letters to Santa Claus. The event begins at 5 p.m.

Auburn held its annual Christmas Opening on Thursday with a tree lighting at Union Bank & Trust.

The Auburn State Theater showed a series of Mickey’s Holiday Celebration shorts and A Charlie Brown’s Christmas.

 

A Murray Community Thanksgiving drive-in service is scheduled at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22.

A ministry service is organized by the Murray Christian Church and the Murray Presbyterian Church at the Murray Christian Church parking lot on Young Street.

In other city announcements, ImPERUving as oNE has scheduled a Peru Town Hall at the PSC auditorium at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1.

Topics will include flood recovery and results of the grocery store survey. The group is endorsing a downtown grocery store.

Nebraska City Parks and Recreation posted on Facebook that the department has not conducted a sign-up for boys and girls basketball due to a surge in COVID-19 cases.

The parks department says unless conditions improve, it does not look promising for use of gymnasiums.
