Nebraska City Tree City Trails Looks To Move Forward With Project
NEBRASKA CITY-The Nebraska City Tree City Trails Committee held an open house earlier this week to share plans and goals for future phases of the proposed trail system.
Tree City Trails Committee is working very closely with the City of Nebraska City in collaboration with Otoe County and Nemaha NRD, as well as JEO Associates.
The project consists of a 5 mile loop within Nebraska City and a 4 mile connection to Steamboat Trace and it is estimated to cost $3.5 million dollars.
Tree City Trails Chair, Tom Farrell states the “health and wellness of Nebraska City, making it a better place to live and work” are the top incentives to create the trail, since outdoor recreation has seen a spike during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Farrell also says that this is a work in progress and the next step is in the hands of the City Council. “The council was really adamant to make sure the public was aware, and so that’s why we are having this public meeting tonight. After this we’ll ask to get on the council agenda to discuss further approval of the engineering study for this segment of the path from the bridge on north 11th street out to the ballparks”.
