One dead, one injured in Wednesday morning Auburn crash
AUBURN, Neb. - One man is dead and another was injured in a Wednesday morning crash north of Auburn. The accident occurred on the viaduct on the north edge of town on Highway 75.
Police said a northbound Ford F-250, driven by 60-year-old Kurt Kechely of Lincoln, crossed into the southbound lane and struck a semi-truck driven by Shane Fisher of Bellevue. Both drivers were transported to Nemaha County Hospital. Kechely died as a result of his injuries, and Fisher was transferred to an Omaha hospital for evaluation.
Freezing conditions on the elevated viaduct are believed to have contributed to the crash, according to the Sheriff's Department. The semi caught fire after the collision. The Auburn Rural Fire Department, Nemaha County Sheriff's Office and Nebraska State Patrol were all on scene.
